Ciudad Juarez is the main source of medical supplies to the world.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ciudad Juarez has positioned itself as the main supplier of medical products in the north of the country, with Chihuahua the main exporter. This was mentioned by the Secretary of Innovation and Economic Development, through the Undersecretary of Industry. He highlighted that there are currently more than 30 manufacturing companies and close to 40 thousand employees in the city.
To mention a few, these are the products that are used for COVID-19 protection: gowns, caps, mouth covers, boot covers, surgery kits, artificial respirators, catheters, pressure cuffs, titanium staples, and more.
According to data from the DATA Mexico system during 2020, Ciudad Juarez sold 2.5 billion dollars in medical devices, being the United States the main market for this equipment; likewise, the Mexican Association of Innovative Industries Medical Devices (AMID), Juarez became in 2020 as the main exporter of inputs in Latin America.
Julio Chiu, president of the BIO Juarez-El Paso Cluster, stated that among the growth that is being experienced in the medical sector, there are some issues to be solved, such as the supply of electric energy and the need to continue training specialized personnel.
